Do you know the story of Apollo and Clytie? Clytie, the #waternymph started playing out during the day. When she did this, she saw Apollo the #sungod flying the sun across the sky with his four horses on his chariot. When Apollo spotted Clytie watching, he waved to her. Clytie's heart skipped a beat and she immediately fell in love with him. Clytie stayed out all night, waiting for the Sun God to return, and at last he did. On the second day she waved, following the sparkling sun and Apollo with her gaze across the sky. However, Apollo did not return her wave. Clytie was of course disappointed, but she loved Apollo. She loved watching him work, pulling the ☀ with him. She stayed out again, waiting for the moment Apollo would pull the sun across the sky. Eventually Apollo returned with the heavy hot sun. Clytie hoped he would return her wave (and her love) but the Sun God and his horses just thundered across the sky. For 9 days Clytie stayed in the water garden, watching Apollo with her head up and her eyes fixed to the movement of the sun. She was wasting away. On the 9th day however, something happened. You can decide if it was worse than wasting away or a kindness. On the 9th day, Apollo spotted the water nymph fixed to her usual spot in the garden staring up at him, wasting away to a frail, slip of a girl. He had quickly become bored and irritated of her watching him work all day, and also realised she was going to die if she carried this on. He lent over his chariot, pointed down to her, and turned her into a sunflower. This is why 🌻 's heads stare up at the sun and follow it. They all come from Clytie, and all love watching Apollo pull that heavy, radiant sun each day across the sky. My painting depicts the moment Clytie begins to turn into a sunflower. At the end of each year, I scrap book about significant stuff that happened. This particular scrap book is for my growing art career. I have found the scrap book is incredibly helpful to go back to and boost one's confidence when having a moment of doubt (like most artists do). I recommend giving yourself time to look back down the mountain and seeing how far you have come in moments like this. I also recommend @mariabrophy 's super book #artmoneysuccess, which I have stuck a picture of in my scrap book! Last year my arty friend @tomshepherdartist recommended it, and it really helped me focus my plans and business mind. Speaking to Tom and listening to Maria gave me the boost to start making lists of people in my research who may be able to further my career some way. I set myself a task of contacting 5 art groups and companies each day. I got some extra one off work with some, but hit gold when I contacted the @themillartscentre who I ❤! 😁 These days I teach four regular groups (some private, some Mill Arts groups), get involved with far more exciting projects due to the network that is building, am in two galleries @sproat_k and @meanderandmooch, regular exhibitions stretching between London to Derbyshire, and often paint live in all these places. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm showing off to you; I just want you to understand that it is possible to do so much more than you imagine if you don't believe it already. Of course, it won't work if you literally just read Maria's book for example and then wait passively for things to happen (which she points out a few times to make sure you get off your butt and make things happen for yourself). Now I am working on some new mediums in art, and seeing what is most popular. If I enjoy doing it, I might make a bit more of what is popular for the galleries. I also am trying to find ways of making money if for some reason teaching art wasn't a viable option anymore. Reading Maria's book has made me much more forward thinking. It might be helpful to others if you share your experiences below! I'd love to hear them too. Let's share the wisdom. Xx

If you like #greekmythology (which I'm currently creating some art from) these books are great. Stephen Fry's Mythos is so entertaining and well written. The other is illustrated, perhaps more for older children, but I love it too. My studio is full of fiction for me to paint!

What do you think of painted edges? Some of my larger paintings I've not framed due to a painted edge, but the smaller ones (like this one) I usually do in a floating frame so you can still see the edge but it still look finished. I'm moving house, which is mainly why I haven't posted in a while. Soon, when all the big stuff is in, I will be able to start on my studio! This has to be one of my favourite exhibitions and art festivals of the year. It has been inspiring and so much fun both as a member of the public and as an artist. Resin for those moths. Little tip: leave the resin longer than you think you should to dry. If however you don't, and end up putting a thumb print in it, don't worry! Just let it dry, sand it down, then do another resin pour on top. It's amazing how as good as new it looks afterwards.
